Tasting Notes: The colour is a deep brick red with cherry red hues, displaying classic aromas of liquorice and plums, with hints of herbs and savoury meats. The palate is rich with black fruit intensity, harmonious tannins and toasty vanillin characters, which all provides incredible length and will continue to develop further in the years ahead.

Henley is a strict barrel selection of their best of vintage McLaren Vale Shiraz and is named in honour of Geoff’s Grandfather, who passed away at the ripe old age of 102. This wine is the best of the best of their McLaren Vale Shiraz and only 10 barrels of the Vintage were set aside for Henley.

Winemaker Notes:  Our passion at Geoff Merrill Wines is shaping and nurturing the best wines of the vintage in order to select the best ten barrels for the Henley blend. A stunning vintage, comparable to 1990 and 1998 due to one of the coolest summers on record in South Australia. Flavour ripeness with optimum natural acidity levels was achieved allowing us to produce wines of great intensity and balance.

This “Henley” is taken from a vineyard site in McLaren Vale, where the soils are pale coloured sandy limestone with marine fossils - rare blend of creamy McLaren Vale Shiraz, The pinnacle of what we do, Only 250 dozen were made.
